Why should I consider puppy school?
We do the best that we can to provide you a healthy, socialized, well-rounded puppy. . . but the work has only just begun! When you take your puppy home, your puppy is still in its "critical period" for socialization to people, places, sights, sounds, and situations. It is vital to your puppy's well-being to socialize and train your puppy during this period.
Puppies are so impressionable and trainable! So many bad behaviors can be prevented by socializing and training your puppy early in life. If you train your dog early exactly how you want them to act, they are set up for good behavior for their entire life.
It is well worth the investment in the long run. It is a small cost considering how much it will set up your puppy for success and prevent headaches for you in the future!
Why do we highly recommend Baxter & Bella?
One of the courses is titled "Preparing for My Puppy" and includes info about setting up your house, things to purchase, crate training, and realistic expectations. The next course is "The First Week Together" which covers strategies for the crate, house training, socialization, and what to do about jumping/biting/etc. These courses answer SO many of the questions we get asked frequently by our new puppy families!
With the exception of the Preparing for My Puppy course, the videos are short examples (typically about 2-5 minutes long) of the trainer working with a dog on whatever skill you will be working on. They give clear directions on exactly how you should interact with your puppy. They provide checklists and schedules of when and how often to work with your puppy.
You can schedule free, live meetings with professional trainers if you want some personalized help.
You can do the training at your own pace and in the convenient location of your home (or on the go -- they even have an app!)
You can refer back to the videos/materials for years to come!
It is cheaper than doing in-person puppy kindergarten/training classes.
